Kustaanmiekka No. 1/3
Fine art photography, polar light | Helsinki
Description
Kustaanmiekka takes its name from an island in the Helsinki archipelago, Finland. From his boat, Donkalervo photographs these landscapes where sea, sky, and light seem to merge. Here, the horizon all but vanishes into a blend of deep blues, blacks, and rosy hues.
The photograph is minimalist: a few colors, an almost dizzying sense of depth, and the feeling of observing the world from a place apart. It captures a moment when light takes on a near-tangible quality. Above the water, the sky is tinged with pink and mauve; at the center of the image, an intense blue seems to emerge from the darkness. The horizon line, barely perceptible, gives way entirely to this silent encounter between sky and sea.
The work is produced in a limited edition of just three copies.
