The Expressionist – early 20th century
The Expressionist movement appeared at the beginning of the 20th century in Northern Europe. Pictorial art was no longer able to reproduce reality with the rise of photographic art. Expressionist art was born distorting reality in order to provoke an emotional reaction. The anguish shows through in certain works.
Some famous painters :
. Edvard Munch - « Le Cri, 1893 »
. Bernard Buffet – « Le Clown bleu, 1955 »
. Vassily Kandinsky – « Fugue, 1914 »
